Frostpunk 2 is a simulation video game wherein you must lead a city in surviving the harsh cold. Developed by 11 bit studios, this society and city-building game is the sequel to the hit survival game, Frostpunk, and sets a new stage for you to conquer. 

Similar to Crusader Kings III, Frostpunk 2 brings back the classic gameplay of resource management and strategic allocation of manpower. Here, you also have to keep an eye on your relations with your people, as their actions can change your fate pretty quickly if you’re not careful.

Was Frostpunk successful?

Frostpunk is a city-building survival video game developed and published by 11 bit studios. In the game, you play as the leader of a group of survivors in an alternate late 19th-century world, who must build and maintain a warm city during a worldwide volcanic winter. This entails managing resources, making tough decisions on laws, and exploring the dangerous areas outside the city — all the while facing different scenarios and challenges.

The extreme conditions of the climate allowed the game to impose a moral dilemma between survival and humanity. This, in turn with the game’s emphasis on storytelling, is what made it nominated and won various awards — becoming a highly acclaimed title in its genre. In Frostpunk 2, this dilemma returns in all its glory as the plot takes the players 30 years after the devastating end of the first game.

In terms of graphics, it remains the same and doesn’t have a lot of animations your device needs to play through. The scope and gameplay quality here are expanded upon, though, as you now have to scavenge for an all-new resource for your city’s generator to survive the cold. At the same time, the sequel deals with mature and gory scenes, making it unsuitable for younger audiences.

Humanity lives on

All in all, Frostpunk 2 presents both familiar and unfamiliar challenges to new and old players of its series. While it delves into themes unsuitable for younger audiences to consume, the sheer enjoyment you can get from both its gameplay and story-rich campaigns is worth the trouble. You also don’t need to play the first game to understand the plot.
